A Brief Introduction of Chapter 5
Wilbur heard somebody call him and say that she would be his new friend. However, he could not see where his new friend was. And his new friend just said that Wilbur would see her in the morning of the next day. Wilbur was so excited that he was hard to fall asleep.
Finally, in the morning, Wilbur met with his new friend, a spider, whose name is Charlotte.
In the eyes of Wilbur, Charlotte is nice-looking, but because she ate flies, Wilbur thought he was bloodthirsty.
My thinking:
In my opinion, Charlotte is honest, clever and hard-working. I would combine the content of the article to demonstrate my points.
Firstly, Charlotte is honest.
Charlotte was honest to her own beauty.
"I think you're beautiful," said Wilbur.
"Well, I am pretty," replied Charlotte. "There's no denying that. Almost all spiders are rather nice-looking. I'm not as flashy as some, but I'll do. I wish I could see you, Wilbur, as clearly as you can see me."
Charlotte just said what was true.
"Why not ? It's true, and I have to say what is true. I am not entirely happy about my diet of flies and bugs, but it's the way I'm made.
Secondly, Charlotte is hard-working.
Charlotte did what she could in case of starving to death.
"Well, you can't talk," said Charlotte. "You have your meals brought to you in a pail. Nobody feeds me. I have to get my own living. I live by my wits. I have to be sharp and clever, lest I go hungry. I have to think things out, catch what I can, take what comes.
Thirdly, Charlotte is clever.
There is no doubt that Charlotte is clever. The words she spoke to Wilbur期吓,the answers she gave to Wilbur questions all of these shown her cleverness to us.
“And furthermore," said Charlotte, shaking one of her legs, "do you realize that if I didn't catch bugs and eat them, bugs would increase and multiply and get so numerous that they'd destroy the earth, wipe out everything?"
Something that I learn from Chapter 5
1. We can not judge someone just by their outwards appearances.
We all know that the more beautiful things they are, the more dangerous they will be. For example, roses are very beautiful, but they are always covered with thorns; and if mushrooms are very beautiful, then they may be poisonous.
Charlotte was nice-looking, but she was bloodthirsty, just as Wilbur said.
That is to say, we can not judge someone by their outwards appearances. Charlotte's appearance was beautiful, but in Wilbur's opinion, she was cruel and bloodthirsty.
Underneath her rather bold and cruel exterior, she had a kind heart, and she was to prove loyal and true to the very end.
2. We should not judge someone or something sidedly, but wholly.
Wilbur thought that Charlotte was bloodthirsty just because she ate flies as her breakfast.
However, as Charlotte says, what she ate was not decided by herself but by her mother and her mother's mother.
Thus we could not say that she was bloodthirsty just by what she ate. Actually, she was kind-hearted. And this would be shown in the following articles.
