How does your relationship with a potential donor affect your strategy?

作業(yè) Assignment:

自我畫像
In this first assignment, you'll complete a self-reflection of your own fundraising capacity. You have listened to my own successes and shortcomings in the videos above. It's important, however, for you to do the same assessment.

Identify 2 personal fundraising strengths.
Identify 2 personal fundraising areas of improvement.
Describe a time when you've encountered one of the topics from the lecture this week: getting to know your donor, learning to listen, turning advice into money, or being too close to ask.

第二周:跟隨習俗,戰(zhàn)勝恐懼 Week 2: Following Conventions & Overcoming Fears

In Week 2, we will look at standard protocol for soliciting donations, as well as suggestions for overcoming the associated anxiety moments that come with asking for money.

When is it okay to say no to funding?
What are the five anxiety moments?
Why is it important to protect your donor list?

作業(yè) Assignment:

Draft an email to Tom Wolf (between 2-3 paragraphs) asking to discuss a potential program he might be interested in funding.
Make sure your email displays some personalization--Tom should feel like you have done your research on his background.
Make sure you describe your program in an interesting and relevant way. You can make up a program, but we encourage to use one of your actual programs from your organization!
Make sure you have a specific ask--scheduling a meeting, or a phone call, or a request for some advice.

Bonus: A select few emails will be shared with Tom, who will respond personally to your request in your email.

第三周:修正錯誤狈惫,處理異議 Week 3: Correcting Mistakes & Handling Disappointment

Why might a potential funder say no?
How do you deal with disappointment and how do you correct your mistakes

Share one of your own disappointments with fundraising on the discussion thread.
Read a few examples from your peers.
Comment on at least one post offering advice for next time.

What distinguishes a high quality case for support?
What are the strengths of your people that might appeal to a funder?
How can you make planning and evaluation a cost-effective and ongoing part of the way your organization operates?

第五周:準備不同籌款預案 Week 5: Preparing for Different Types of Funding

How will you be able to be sure the basic expenses of the organization are covered through unrestricted income?·

What types of new support might work for your organization?
How can you prioritize your strategies for different donor types for maximum success? Where should you put the most emphasis?

Be sure you and those helping you will have adequate time to do each fundraising task you have outlined well and in time.

第六周:撰寫項目書 Week 6: Proposal Writing

In Week 6, we will break down the components that make up an excellent grant proposal. You will learn to clarify and align your abstract, goals, and objectives. You will draft a program description and capability statement. And finally, you will come up with an evaluation plan, and learn how to create custom-designed budgets.

What are the critical elements that must be in the abstract or introduction?
How should goals and objectives relate to a proposed evaluation strategy?

What is the best strategy for creating your budget?

Assignment: Do some internet research and select a foundation, corporation or government agency that looks like it might be a good prospect to support an organization or project of your choice. Write a proposal for that funder that you think will be effective. For this assignment, you are not required to submit the budget section, just the narrative. Please try to keep your proposal to no more than three pages.
