Hey readers, so I’m back now in Canada officially and getting myself ready for a brand new journey in learning! I’m looking forward to sharing more insights with you in the coming year as I travel around the world to bring to you the latest in education trends worldwide. On a personal note, I’m going to be taking a course in the coming term by Brainstation (which is an educational bootcamp that provides short term courses in the fields of design, product and corporate training). Specifically, the program I’ve enrolled for is on the User Experience (UX) which is presently one of the hotter specializations demanded in the 21st century for it’s applications into different industries (of course I’ll be focusing it on the education side). I have a feeling that these kind of programs will be more in demand in China in the coming future, so please stay tuned as I provide you some insights to what I’ve gained from this program.
Couple of key insights so far from this program:
Accelerated bootcamps are primarily run for working professionals: Those who are missing the technical (hard) knowledge or conceptual understanding of technology today. I have a feeling that this may be the opposite in Asia, as more students need a boost in the non technical (soft) skills area on collaboration, creativity and more people-oriented skills. Read more on Techcrunch here.
Lower cost & time to get yourself into the workforce: Offering small class sizes (typically 25 students) and mentorship from professional instructors with experience in the tech industry, this new wave of short, intensive courses trains graduates to hit the ground running.
Filling the talent gap: Known for their ability to stay on top of industry trends, they are the new source for filling the talent gap, particularly in smaller, creative industries and start-ups on the hunt for developers with hard skills.
Here’s my first day at orientation so far…seems like a pretty cool place eh?
Ps: Funny thing was this used to be my mentor’s office (used to be a pretty big software company but has since moved to another location)
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to connect it to designing usable learning experience journeys (via educational apps/technology) that will support you in learning things much more effectively and specifically. Will continue to share my learning experiences in the coming days with you!
