While the servants were in a mess, Despereaux knew what he should do. He went to find the king. On the way to the throne room of the king, Despereaux passed by the Mouse Council Rooom where the mice were discussing something. They all thought Despereaux was a ghost, but his father asked for his forgiveness. Despereaux forgave his father and continued to find the king. The king was sobbing in the princess's room. Despereaux shouted to him to tell where the princess were. The king didn't believe what the mouse had said. So Despereaux decided to rescue the princess by himself. He first went to find the threadmaster and asked him to give himself the spool of red thread. He must remember the way back to the entrance of the dungeon with the thread. The threadmaster gave him the spool and told him it was a quest to go back to the dungeon and rescue the princess. He also gave him a needle as a sword. Despereaux was full of strength and bravery and pushed the spool to the dungeon.
