Love and Happiness in?Little House
By Lucy (age 12)
What’s love? What’s happiness? How can we get love and happiness? Maybe some people think if we have lots of money and large houses, we will get more love and happiness , but I don’t think so.
A few months ago, I read a novel named Little House on the Prairie. This book records the life of Laura’s family on the prairie, and it also shows kindness, bravery, sincerity, love and happiness in their little house.
The story is about Laura and her family----the Ingalls who moved from the big forest to the prairie where the Indians lived. And they overcame many difficulties and experienced ?all kinds of happiness in their family when they lived there.
The Ingalls lived in a small house and led a common life. They went hunting every day and got money by selling animal fur to buy vegetables, cloth and other necessaries of life. They didn’t have much money, but each member of their family still felt happy and loved each other.
That day, after Laura’s father had finished building the roof, they sat by the fire. ‘They were all happy that night. The fire on the hearth was pleasant, for on the High Prairie even the summer nights were cold. The red-checked cloth was on the table, the little china woman glimmered on the mantel shelf.’ ?In this ordinary scene, the whole house was filled with love and happiness that especially impressed and warmed me.
One day, two Indians intruded their house and robbed all the food and tobacco. Facing? the terrible situation, they didn’t complain each other, and the family bought food for themselves and hid it carefully. Love appears once more!
Of course, love and happiness not only existed in their own family, but also existed between the family and their neighbor—the Scotts. Once, the Ingalls were infected with malaria by mosquitoes, so that they were sometimes hot and sometimes cold, and they didn’t have any strength at all. At that time, the Scotts found them. Mrs Scott called a doctor and looked after them until they were all well.
From these moving stories, we can say that even if we have no fame and wealth, we can still have love and happiness around us in life.
