The generally acknowledged fact is that fossil fuels cause damage to the environment in the process of extraction, production, transportation and consumption. Therefore, I quite approve of the standpoint that an immediate action must be taken by the world community to make sure that every country around the globe will lessen the consumption of fossil fuels including coal, gas and oil.
To begin with, the most significant deleterious effects of fossil fuels come from their combustion because all fossil fuels emit carbon dioxide when burned. Furthermore, carbon dioxide is the most dangerous greenhouse gas which can contribute to global warming----the rise of the overall temperature of the earth’s surface. What’s worse, global warming could lead to melting of polar ice caps, rising sea levels and flooding of coastal areas, which also affect animal species by destroying their natural habitats.
Besides the pollution and destruction of the environment, harmful emissions from burning fossil fuels pose many threats to public health. It has been confirmed that burning fossil fuels for energy releases particulates and other toxic compounds which can not only exacerbate existing lung and heart conditions but also cause a range of respiratory problems. According to a medical study, inhalation of hazardous chemicals by anyone of any age can increase the risk of lung cancer. In addition, several pollutants released when fossil fuels are burned have been linked to decreased immune function.
All in all, the whole world needs to know about the detrimental influence caused by consuming fossil fuels and all the countries should take steps immediately because the negative effects are serious and potentially fatal to the natural environment and mankind as well at the local, regional, national, and global levels.
