Today I invited my 5 colleagues to my story time again, the book I chose was “The old alligator” which was an action story with instructions for joining in.
The 1st part: The warm up activity, I taught them sing the 1 2 3 number song, they followed the rhythm and sang the key numbers, and atmosphere was getting warm up.
The 2nd part: Introduction of the book. I asked them the first impression when they saw the book’s cover, they said they can saw 3 little ducks and an alligator, the alligator was drooling, they guessed the 3 little ducks were in danger.
The 3rd part: Story telling. This book was an action story, so I needed my listeners’ help when I read the book the first time. When I said “snap snap snap”, I needed them to clap clap clap. when I read the book, I tried two different pitch sounds, one was high pitch for the little ducks, the other one was low pitch for the alligator. I also needed to read it more vividly to attract the listeners’ attention. When I imitated the alligator, I needed to be very fierce, when I read the little ducks’ part, I tried myself to be lovely. When I read the little elephant’s part, I needed to be very innocent which I thought the most interesting part.
The 4th part: story activity. I invited 3 listeners to be 3 little ducks, 1 listener to be the alligator, the 1 listen to be the elephant. Before we started the book’s activity, I asked each of them how to perform the role better, they all gave their opinions, so I thought they had the idea how to do this activity. When I read the book, the 3 little ducks really liked swimming in the water, the alligator was really cunning and drooling, the little elephant was very innocent when she stumbled on the alligator, following by the alligator’s very miserable and funny face. They seems all had a good time.
The 5th part: review time. I asked them what they felt for the whole story telling. They all said they needed to do it at home, the most important part was the teller and the listeners all needed to join in happily. I apologized that I didn’t make any story tools to make the story more vividly, this was what I need to improve next time. Thanks to my listeners.
