Jude wanted have a brand new life, greatly different from where he is living now. From then on, he regarded that university as his dream place but he was refused. Then he turned his ambition to Christminster. Again he failed. He wanted to own a marital love by his own sense of right and wrong. He did enjoyed love with Sue, but it was not tolerated by the society. So Jude was doomed to be a tragic hero because of his low status, the unreasonable education and marriage system in capitalist society, and the inherent evils in reality. Jude choose his own love hurt great. Every parts of his life he is tormented by rejection.
Arabella told Jude she had born a boy of their marriage, this was first time Jude know he has a children with Arabella. Jude don't know what to do with the boy. They reckons that child seems to be wanted by nobody, so they decided whether the boy is Jude's by blood or not they will bring up he. Even that Jude hope the boy isn't his blood, he just want adopted child before the boy come. Then he wrote to Arabella should sent on to them as soon as the boy arrived, and making no remark whatever on the surprising nature of Arabella's information and the boy's paternity. We can learn from Jude's attitudes, the boy with a parent who doesn't want him, the family do not welcome the boy and wish he is not Jude's blood. From his father attitudes about him I think the boy's tragedy is inevitable.
When the small pale child Father Time
appeared in the train, a tabby kitten made all these the fellow-passengers laughed, the solitary boy say:" All laughing comes from misapprehension. Rightly looked at there is no laughable thing under the sun." (Para1, P262) We can see that he was a negative people and he is an intelligent age. It was so weird views for a children to think the world. When he found his father house by himself, he fell into a steady mechanical creep which had in it an impersonal quality, it could have been seen that the boy's ideas of life were different from those of the local boys. The boy seemed to have begun with the generals of life, and never to have concerned himself with the particulars. First time Jude met his child, he have an idea which to edcate and train him with a view to the college, Jude think it's easier for poor students now but he failed. Because his children is indifferent to all things. When Sue talked with him there is no room for children he think it's himself troubled his father, so he hang his little brother and sister then suicided.
Father Time knocked and asked where is his father lives, said his father name Jude is Mr. Fawley, that's his father name. Maybe he never know his father names. When Jude ask his name is not Jude, he never heard on it. Arabella might never told he and accompany he. When this singular boy arrival at their family, he always sitting silent, his eyes resting on things they did not see in the substantial world. He look so aged and never been christened, Jude want to be a pastor and his first child never been christened. It's contrary to common sense that someone want be a pastor but never christened for his child. When he come home from school repeat inquiries and remarks that had been made to him, ?we know that Sue and Jude's marriage was not tolerated by church which hurted Father Time. And the boy's attitude is weird, he thought never been christened when he was dead it would save the expense of a Christian funeral. The boy was very pessimistic to the world but dying to maternal love because he want to call Sue mother with a yearning look when he first met Sue, it's indicated his mother hardly seen him.
All of us known that child is the hope of the family, the boy's coming also brought with anxious thought for the future, particularly as he seemed at present to be singularly deficient in all the usual hopes of childhood. When Jude excited for the barrier, child met those days might excited more than Jude, but Father Time shuddered and said it do seem like the Judgment Day. When I read this which like this family's lamp of hope put out. And the boy's face expressed the whole tale of their situation. Jude and Sue had taken care to bring Father Time to try every means of making him kindle and laugh like other boys, but he is different from the other local child.
On Remembrance Day their arrival the Christminster station, everyone were dressed up in brightest and lightest of raiment. Jude's failure is reflected on he by every one of those young fellows. His soul seemed full of the anniversay, although he said he mustn't let the anniversay interfere with their business. It's like a Humiliation Day for Jude, left their luggage and his tools at the station, Jude need found a place where accommodation.
All of us known, that Christminster was a dream begining place. Jude bring his family come there again, and chose Remembrance Day means Jude still have extravagant hopes about Christminster. When they pass by the Italian porch, Jude remember the futility of his attempt to be a son of the university. When the barrier just going to pass, Jude cried in sudden excitement and pushing his way to the front he took up a position close to the barrier. It seemed Jude still hold his great meditation to the college, his hope for Christminster wasn't shattered completely. But the barrier draw up at the lower door of the college signified Jude can not to college. Jude have tried again and again but he never give up and full of hope.
Father Time for though he was formally turned into "Jude," but the apt nickname stuck to him. It's hinted that the sadness stuck this family. Sue and Jude's ancestors had been hang, at the end of the novel Father Time kill his little brother and sister there were two hooks for hanging garments. They ancestor was commit crime hinted the child born was violated ethics.
Father Time have a new views of life, he seem to see all its terrors before he is old enoug to have staying power to resist he. He always sitting silent, his eyes resting on things they did not see in the substantial world. He look so aged and have a different views of life which unknown in last generation. It was in his nature to this tragedy.
In Jude's speech, he said he doesn't think he like Christminster! ?But he bring his family to Christminster want have a new chance. When they found a place to lodging, every householder looked askance at such a waman and child inquiring for accomodation in the gloom. Jude was failure to find another lodging, and Sue 's house was opposited the walls of Sarcophagus College, it's ridiculous for Jude's great meditation. The failure to find another lodging, and lack of room in this house for his father had made a deep impression on the boy, a brooding undemonstrative horror seemed to have seized him. (Para5, P316) Father Time ?talk with Sue to broken the silence of horror, Sue talked to Father Time as one should only talk to people of mature age, and said the world was against his family. That is better to be out of life than in it at this price, and he took it literally.Sue responded him negatively make the boy believe that his parents can't get a good lodging is because of children. It upset him. No room for they, and Jude a-forced to.go away, but another baby is join them.
Father Time talk with Sue had said " I wish I hadn't been born". He think it was he make his father in trouble, and when he was a baby his mother left he alone he to his grandparents. He think heself was troubled them in Austrulia, and now he trouble his parents here.(Para16, P317) He doesn't agree with the law of nature. He think that whenever children be born that are not wanted they should be killed directly, before their souls come to them, and not allowed to grow big and walk about. Sue told he there is going to be another in their family soon, the boy jumped up wildly. Father Time was upset when he heard that and think such trouble like his father cannot found a house to lodging with what Sue have got. This bring them all into more trouble, there is no room and Jude to found a place to lodging. Father Time went away into the closet adjoining her room, he murmured that if they children was gone there would be no trouble at all. Father Time sum up the trouble to himself, and written a piece of paper upon the door: Done because we are too many. He was revolted to Sue bring another baby join their family use his own way.We learn of the death of Sue and Jude's child at the hands of Jude's only child by Arabella. Father Time was born after Jude married Arabella he is symbolized ?justice, and Sue's child was not born with marriage its emblematized injustice. Justice killed injustice by hang, it means the marriage between Jude and Sue is not tolerated by the church in reality.For the rashness of those parents he had groaned, for their ill assortment he had quaked and for the misfortunes of these he died. He was their nodal point, their focus, their expression in a single term.(Para1, P321) ?Their babies had done no harm, but they have been taken away. That was a warning ?for them, they are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angles, and to men.
He death of Sue and Jude's child at the hands of Jude's only child by Arabella, it seems like justice killed injustice.
