Despereaux told himself a story of his life to make himself brave. The spool of thread went away from the mouse downstairs far faster than Despereaux's speed. Eventually the spool stopped by the rat Bottecelli. Despereaux felt frightened in the dark and soundless dungeon. Botticelli told the mouse he could help him finding the princess. Despereaux just could hold the rat's tail and follow him. There were many tufts of hair, bones of human, knots of thread and grinning skulls on the floor of the dungeon. There were many rats in the dungeon too. They were very excited to see the scared little mouse, whose smell was mixed of soup, blood, flour and oil.
Let's go back to Mig and the princess. Chiaroscuro led the two girls to a dark room and he let the princess give her crown to Mig. But he told Mig she would never become a princess and the princess would be kept in the dungeon forever with Mig. Mig was sad and said, "But, I want, I want..."
