Summary
Su Tungpo occupied peculiar position in China's history. The home atmosphere was just right for him. Su Tungpo's grandfather exerted indirectly influence upon his literary life. Su Tungpo's father guided him in the direction of purity of writing style. The most important member of his family who grew up and studied with him was his younger brother, Tseyu. The brothers sent each other regularly one poem a month when they lived apart. Su Tungpo was vivacious and ambitious. Apart from this, he believed that there is not a single bad person in this world. His wife gave him practical advice.
To meet the official tests, the students had to repeated the ancient classics from memory. Both the Su brothers passed with high scores. Then the Su family set out for the capital. The reputation of the three Sus as scholars and writers had steadily risen.
這一周最大的進(jìn)步是完成閱讀不再是那么一個(gè)負(fù)擔(dān)，有時(shí)候想想又要學(xué)英語(yǔ)啦還有一點(diǎn)雀躍泵喘。原因之一是作品的生詞似乎不那么多蕾额。第二個(gè)原因是寫筆記成為一件自己也賞心悅目的事情待逞。尤其感謝群里的朋友的鼓勵(lì)酒繁，在語(yǔ)言之內(nèi)探究文學(xué)色彩的美本身就是一件美麗的事情孽惰。
作品讀來感覺還是有點(diǎn)嘮叨膳凝，用詞比如“in such ardent zeal”（在非常熱情的熱情）碑隆，“honored with profound reverence”（帶著非常尊敬的尊敬）。但是贅述這一點(diǎn)蹬音，在詩(shī)句中則使文意更精確地表述上煤，如第四章父與子中提到的《入峽》，原文中四句就出現(xiàn)了三次“cliff”：
入峽初無路著淆，連山忽似龕劫狠。Entering the gorge, the river seemed blocked in front. Then from the cliffs a cleft appeared like Buddha's niche.
榮迂收浩渺拴疤，座縮作澗潭。The swirling waters began to leave their wide expanse, And narrow themselves into a deep abyss.
風(fēng)過如呼吸独泞，云生似吐含呐矾。The winds bellowed through the cliffs, And the clouds spewed forth from the caves.
墮崖鳴卒卒，垂蔓綠毿毿懦砂。Overhanging cliffs whistled in the high winds, And twining vines glistened in resplendent green.
而對(duì)應(yīng)的中文則以“峽”“山”“崖”或省略主語(yǔ)的動(dòng)詞一帶而過蜒犯。在說明理解方面，還是英文不厭其煩的表述更加易于領(lǐng)會(huì)荞膘。
關(guān)于第六章罚随，既有求神問鬼的虔誠(chéng)：prayer is based upon one of the deepest instincts in man，又有與鬼神平起平坐的自信：not only the gods, but also the devil, should be open to a forceful onslaught of his logic.羽资，很符合在第一章最后提到的“有現(xiàn)代精神的古人”：“we would say he was a great democrat”“Today it may be said that he was truly a modern man.”
在《花城》2017年第6期淘菩，有這樣的一段：
“斗轉(zhuǎn)星移，時(shí)代到了現(xiàn)在屠升，鬼神的境遇怎么樣呢潮改？人們對(duì)鬼神的看法如何呢？大部分人的看法是弥激，哪里有什么鬼神进陡，從外面開來一臺(tái)推土機(jī)，已經(jīng)把鬼神推跑了微服。又從外面開來一臺(tái)軋路機(jī)趾疚，已經(jīng)把鬼神軋得粉碎，從今以后以蕴，再也看不到鬼神的影子了糙麦。之所以沒了鬼神，人們找到了三個(gè)原因丛肮。一是人煙太稠了赡磅，房子蓋得太多了，擠占了鬼神的空間宝与。鬼神被擠兌得無處待焚廊，無處躲，只好退出歷史舞臺(tái)习劫。二是鬼神最喜歡寂靜咆瘟，最害怕喧囂和熱鬧，連早上的雞叫聲都不敢聽诽里。而現(xiàn)在一天到晚空氣里都是歌聲袒餐、笑聲、機(jī)器轟鳴聲、電喇叭聲等灸眼，無處不在的強(qiáng)大噪音早就把鬼神嚇壞了卧檐。三是習(xí)慣了在黑暗中活動(dòng)的鬼神見不得光亮，光亮一來焰宣，他們就得趕緊退避霉囚。農(nóng)村通電以后，電光像一把把利劍匕积，無處不劈到佛嬉，鬼神哪里還有存在的余地呢！”
傳統(tǒng)與現(xiàn)代的交匯碰撞闸天，使得作品具有陌生而奇異的吸引力。這也是The Gay Genius吸引我讀的一大原因吧斜做。
