Early every morning, a shepherd（牧羊人） took his flock（群） of sheep out in the fields to graze（放牧）. He would sit by watching, as the sheep lazily munched（用力咀嚼） on fresh grass.

每天大清早，牧羊人都趕著羊群到地里吃草答捕。他坐在羊群旁邊看著他們懶洋洋地咀嚼青草逝钥。

After they had eaten, he would round them up and walk back home. Sometimes while watching his flock, he would curl up （卷縮）in a quiet corner and go off to sleep.

等羊兒吃飽了，他再把它們趕到一起拱镐，走回家去艘款。有時(shí)候，他看著看著沃琅，就會(huì)在安靜的角落里蜷作一團(tuán)哗咆，打起盹來(lái)。

One day, the shepherd （牧羊人）caught a wolf which had strayed（閑蕩） into the field, eyeing his sheep. However, it was some distance away and it made no effort to come nearer.

有一天益眉，牧羊人發(fā)現(xiàn)一匹狼溜進(jìn)地里岳枷，對(duì)羊群虎視眈眈∥亟校可是，它只是在遠(yuǎn)處看著殿衰，并沒(méi)有走近朱庆。

The shepherd at first stood on guard against the wolf, as against an enemy, and kept a strict watch over its movements. But the wolf did not do anything. When the shepherd herded the sheep and headed home with his flock, the wolf quietly followed them at a distance.

起先，牧羊人站起身提防著狼闷祥，就像提防敵人一樣娱颊，嚴(yán)密地監(jiān)視著狼的一舉一動(dòng)。 但是狼一動(dòng)沒(méi)動(dòng)凯砍。牧羊人趕著羊群回家的時(shí)候箱硕，狼就悄悄地、遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)地跟著他們悟衩。

This continued for a while. The shepherd would find the wolf waiting at the edge of the field every morning. But it made not the slightest effort to seize the sheep and would just watch. So, by and by, the shepherd let down（放松） his guard a bit.

這樣的狀態(tài)持續(xù)了一段時(shí)間剧罩。牧羊人每天早上都能看到狼就等在那塊地的邊上，一點(diǎn)兒抓羊的意思也沒(méi)有座泳，就只是看著惠昔。于是，久而久之挑势，牧羊人放松了警惕镇防。

A few days later, he even began to actually look forward to the wolf's presence. The wolf, who generally sat on a large piece of rock, looked like a big sheep dog from afar（從遠(yuǎn)處看）.

幾天以后，他甚至開(kāi)始盼望狼的出現(xiàn)潮饱。 狼呢来氧，一般就坐在一塊大石頭上，遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)看上去就像一只牧羊犬。

The shepherd thought that other wild animals or mischief-makers would be scared of the “dog”'s presence and not harm his flock while it was around. Now, he began to look upon the wolf as a guardian of his flock.

牧羊人一想啦扬，只要這只“狗”在中狂，其他野獸或是搗蛋鬼肯定就嚇得不敢傷害羊群了。 現(xiàn)在考传，他開(kāi)始把那匹狼當(dāng)作羊群的守護(hù)者看待了吃型。

One day, in the middle of grazing his sheep, the shepherd was called back home urgently. Leaving the sheep entirely in the charge of the wolf, he left. When he came back, what did he find?

有一天，羊兒正在吃草僚楞，牧羊人被緊急叫回了家勤晚。他居然把整個(gè)羊群交給狼看管，就那么走了泉褐。 等到回來(lái)的時(shí)候赐写，他看到什么了？

That the wolf had eaten most of his flock, with only a few sheep wandering about. Carcasses of the dead sheep lay around, everywhere.

狼把大多數(shù)羊都吃了膜赃，就剩了幾只在那兒走來(lái)走去挺邀。周?chē)芍氖茄虻氖w，遍地都是跳座。

對(duì)敵人的仁慈就是對(duì)自己的殘忍端铛。
