This movie talks about life and love — the eternal themes of human being epic songs. It’s not a story酪刀, is a picture of people’s life. It shows two crossed lines that one clockwise and the other one counterclockwise, just likes the huge clock that the old watchmaker made. Benjamin remains me of the doctor in many aspects. Especially the 10th, 11th doctor and river song as they both have a retrograde timeline.
Benjamin and the doctor both live in a extremely different way up on others. None of them can grow old with others, they’re young when other people are old, and old when others’s young. They will never running. Life is long, but they can’t stay. Sometimes they meet some people, various people, different people? and have a really nice trip with them. However, they’re alone in most of the time. They dash around the world, the universe to sightseeing, to experiencing cause they can feel the pain that could never be avoided. They say goodbye and farewell to every person they have ever loved. Benjamin is rather more lucky compares to the doctor, as Benjamin have only one life for not more than 100 years meanwhile the doctor have theoretically infinite life (he/she just have 14 lives, just for now). It always remind me of the doctor when Benjamin is riding a motorbike. They come and take part in people’s lives, but they just pass by, they float like ballons, they will never stop.
I wouldn’t say this movie is a love story although it did spend so much time to show the love between Benjamin and several women. I wonder what did the movie trying to tell. Maybe, it’s still about love. But not that kind of love between man and woman, it’s the love between person and person. The love of man and woman, of mate and mate, of parents and children, of old people and the career. Love makes life. Fragments of love make up a complete life of a person.
Benjamin told us to love, to live, to experience, to make ourselves proud. He said we should try to be whoever we want to be. Just like the 9th doctor said: “l(fā)ive a fantastic live.”
And other thing this movie was talking about is growing up and changing. Born old and grow to be young. It turns out that the end of life is just the same as the beginning of it. We keep changing in our life. As Benjamin’s mother said: “you well never know how the life would become.” We have to get used to it, and never forget the people who we used to be.
