What does "Racial Equity" mean to you?
Racial equity is about applying justice and a little bit of common sense to a system that’s been out of balance. When a system is out of balance, people of color feel the impacts most acutely, but, to be clear, an imbalanced system makes all of us pay.
~ CSI President Glenn Harris
My personal opinion is racial equity is wrong. It reminds me about 30 years ago in China, when people have to fill in "family background" when going to school or applying for job. There is option like poor peasant, middle peasant, rich peasant etc. When you are rich peasant, sorry, you chance of getting a job or get into good school is doomed. It also reminds of 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act proscribed entry of an ethnic working group on the premise that it endangered the good order of certain localities. It also reminds me of India caste system.
What does an equitable school district look like to you, and what impact would it have on you and/or your student?
I prefer a school that honor Racial equality. Racial equality occurs when institutions give equal opportunity to people of all races. Just like what happened in China, "family background" is removed from job application form or school registration form, I would like to see "race" totally removed from school district's consideration. Everyone is born equal, regardless of race.
