How to improve writing

I have been preparing for job interview for three days. I wrote several pieces of Gaokao English paper which are the test paper in the past 5 years. Here are three tips I get from this special experience. Because it's been five years when I touch the Gaokao test paper again.
First, my reading comprehension has improved a lot. I can answer most questions correctly, about 95 percent after first reading. So how do I gain my reading ability? Because the 8 English books I read over past one and a half years. I also find a cruce fact that I can't improve my reading through filling test paperq. Because it is really boring. All I want to do is just finish the paper. Most question are really weird and no brain. I don't believe I can fall in love with English through test paper. So, If you want to improve your reading ability, you can read what you interest a lot. Then do the test.
Second, my grammar knowledge is poor. Most of us know that there is a section called cloze test. I fill the blank through reading out loud. I chose the word which I feel right. Sometimes, I don't know why I choose the option A or B or C. But this doesn't works when I answer single choice question. So reading is important, so is grammar.
Finally, as you can see, my writing is really plain. I just write what firstly come to my mind. There are hardly any skills. So I failed in the composition part. I remembered that I needed to write a letter to foreign friend which required he wrote an article to our school's newspaper. I wrote the letter. My letter was really unpersuasive compared to the reference answer. Some homework is needed to improve my composition.
