上一章結(jié)束時(shí)，Romero的出場驚艷全場致燥，嫻熟流暢的斗牛表演登疗，也深深吸引了Brett。搭訕嫌蚤，從來不是問題谜叹。一個(gè)是迷倒眾人的俏佳人匾寝，一個(gè)是血?dú)夥絼偟拿郎倌辏姽饣鹗衫埃簿晚樌沓烧卵藁凇６@自然也是后來各種矛盾激化的源頭。
Jake依然保持他隱忍的習(xí)慣女仰，甚至帶著Brett去撮合與Romero的新戀情猜年。似乎對此已經(jīng)麻木，“南有喬木疾忍，不可休思乔外。漢有游女，不可求思”一罩，也就不過如此杨幼。Cohn不一樣，不管別人怎樣冷眼相待聂渊，依然毫不掩飾地表達(dá)著對Brett的追求差购，甚至第一次在非拳擊比賽的場合大打出手。在他心里汉嗽，Brett是愛著他的欲逃，他以為曾經(jīng)一起度過快樂時(shí)光就意味著天長地久，他無法接受Brett不過是逢場作戲的事實(shí)饼暑，也終于在與Romero最后的較量中敗下陣來稳析，悄然遠(yuǎn)去。在Cohn心里弓叛，應(yīng)該還是有對古老的“忠貞不渝”的愛情觀的執(zhí)念彰居。經(jīng)歷過前兩次的婚姻或者準(zhǔn)婚姻，在他終于可以以自己的意愿去追求真摯的愛情的嘗試中撰筷，一敗涂地裕菠。他的遁去，也算是虛妄的理想主義的破滅吧闭专。
Mike是個(gè)醉鬼奴潘，很多不堪的話從他口中說出，卻道出了大家心知肚明的事實(shí)影钉。他舉債酗酒画髓，對未婚妻的舉動(dòng)也是放任自流，又何嘗不是一種對現(xiàn)實(shí)的逃避平委。
Romero則樹立了一個(gè)“打不垮”的斗爭的形象奈虾，在與Cohn的打斗中，盡管不是拳擊手的對手，但不妨礙他站起來一次次與之搏斗肉微，也算是符合“硬漢”的形象匾鸥。這一點(diǎn)他就與Jake不同，被打的Jake碉纳，只是默默承受勿负，也不讓人跟著，像一個(gè)精疲力盡的運(yùn)動(dòng)員劳曹，一個(gè)人看看似乎熟悉實(shí)則陌生的城市奴愉，他漠然，不過是希望洗個(gè)熱水澡讓事情過去铁孵。所以Romero也算是迷惘中閃現(xiàn)的斗志吧锭硼。
