「take one’s degree of」是“獲得……的學(xué)位”的意思。比如蛛淋，華生獲得了“Doctor of Medicine”（醫(yī)學(xué)博士）的學(xué)位咙好。值得注意的是，此處的“Doctor”不是常見含義“醫(yī)生”褐荷，而是“博士”哦～
Netley勾效，一般叫做Netley Abbey，是英國漢普郡南部海岸的一個村子叛甫。在維基百科里輸入這個地名层宫，你會發(fā)現(xiàn)這個村子的旁邊曾經(jīng)有一座叫做the old Royal Victoria Military Hospital（老皇家維多利亞軍事醫(yī)院）的地方，也叫Netley Hospital其监，這所醫(yī)院建于克里米亞戰(zhàn)爭時期（1853~1856年）萌腿，使用時間粗略計算大約是從1863年到第二次世界大戰(zhàn)期間，所以Watson這里說1878年他去完成的這個軍醫(yī)的課程抖苦，很有可能就是在這里哦~

這是一個非正常語序的句子哦毁菱，正常語序應(yīng)該是：The state of my finances became so alarming that I soon realized that I must either leave the city and move to the country, or make a complete change in my style of living.
“so…that…”這個結(jié)構(gòu)為“如此……以至于……”米死，“either…or…”為固定結(jié)構(gòu)，表二者選其一贮庞，可以譯為“要么……峦筒，要么……”。所以這個句子意思是“我的財政狀況變得非常窘迫窗慎，以至于我很快意識到我要么就必須從城里搬到鄉(xiāng)下物喷，要么就得完全換一種生活方式∽叫希”
3.If he really wants someone to share the rooms and the expense, I am the very man for him. I should prefer having a partner to being alone.

很多同學(xué)問為什么這里要有一個「up」, 「up」在這里是一個副詞堤器，華生跟Stamford一起去福爾摩斯的Lab找他，他們要上到醫(yī)院上面去末贾，因此這里「up」表示一個方位狀態(tài)“在上面”闸溃。
5.“Why, what is there against him?”
此處是「against him」是“不利于他，他的負(fù)面”的意思拱撵，華生想知道Stamford為何只說“福爾摩斯不是一個’constant companion’辉川，而不進(jìn)一步解釋”的原因。所以詢問Sth against Sherlock Holmes（關(guān)于福爾摩斯的負(fù)面消息）拴测。

inquiry是“探究、質(zhì)詢”的意思姆另。BBC旗下有一個廣播喇肋，叫The Inquiry，是個很有意思的節(jié)目迹辐，經(jīng)常會探討一些政治蝶防、社會、科學(xué)方面的熱點話題明吩，iPhone上有一個APP叫Podcast（播客）上面可以訂閱這個節(jié)目间学，BBC官網(wǎng)上也可以下載和收聽。

「When it comes to」固定搭配印荔，在這里是“當(dāng)提及到”的意思低葫。注意to后面直接加名詞或名詞性短語，而不是不定式躏鱼。
第二個「it」指的是前文的“a passion for definite and exact knowledge”,在此處Stamford是說福爾摩斯極度追求知識的精確性氮采，甚至達(dá)到了詭異的地步（鞭尸）。
「take shape」是“形成”的意思染苛。在這里理解為：事情就變的很詭異鹊漠。
