八年前女兒Carol高中Gap year時(shí)凡橱，曾和一位阿根廷裔美國(guó)人Sol一起，合伙創(chuàng)辦了一個(gè)專為老外孩子舉辦生日派對(duì)的 "Party Smarty"亭姥。

【注：Gap year稼钩，中文譯為"間隔年"，即在升學(xué)达罗、畢業(yè)坝撑、工作前，或旅行粮揉、或工作巡李，了解并融入社會(huì)的一種體驗(yàn)式學(xué)習(xí)方式】

在她們舉辦的幾十多場(chǎng)生日派對(duì)上，給孩子們講英文故事是其中的重頭戲扶认。

每次派對(duì)前侨拦，Carol都要親手繪制一本又大又寬的故事書，加起來共畫了幾十多本故事書辐宾。

It was a lovely summer morning, but Roo was feeling grumpy and he didn't know why. He was feeling so grumpy that he didn't even want to play.

這是一個(gè)美好的夏日早晨蛀柴，但是小袋鼠卻正在鬧脾氣，而且他自己也不知道這是為什么矫夯。他覺得真是太煩了鸽疾，甚至玩耍也沒什么意思。

"What's wrong with you this morning" asked his mother "Nothing" said Roo. "You should smile" his mother said. "Everybody feels better when they smile" But little Roo wasn't in a smiling mood today, not even when his mother tickled him gently. "Did I see a tiny smile" she asked. "Just one" "No!" said Roo. "You didn't"

"今天早上你是怎么了" 媽媽問训貌。"沒什么" 小袋鼠說制肮。"你應(yīng)該笑一個(gè)" 媽媽說，"笑一笑的話递沪，心情就會(huì)好起來的" 但是豺鼻，今天小袋鼠根本不想笑，就是媽媽輕輕地胳肢他款慨，他也沒有笑儒飒。"讓我看到你的一絲笑容好嗎？" 媽媽問檩奠，"就笑一下桩了？" "不！"小袋鼠說埠戳，"不可能的"

His Mum reached out and flipped him up head over heels. It was the kind of game that little kangaroos love to play! But would it work this grumpy morning?

媽媽把他拋起來井誉，他的腳后跟比媽媽的頭還高。這是小袋鼠非常喜歡玩兒的一個(gè)游戲整胃。但是颗圣，在這個(gè)心情不好的早晨，這個(gè)游戲還管用嗎屁使？

No. little Roo did not smile. Not even a teeny-weeny one.His mother skipped into a hollow tree where they liked to play. She popped her head through a hole in the trunk."Smile!" "I still don't want to," said little Roo.

是的在岂，小袋鼠還是沒有笑。哪怕一丁點(diǎn)兒的笑意也沒有蛮寂。媽媽跳進(jìn)了一個(gè)樹洞洁段，那是他們平時(shí)喜歡的地方。她從一個(gè)樹洞探出頭來共郭，"來，笑一個(gè)疾呻！" "我還是一點(diǎn)兒都不想笑" 小袋鼠說除嘹。

"Oh dear" said his mum. So she gathered up some dry leaves tossed them into the air and all the leaves came down on little Roo. He looked so funny! " I think I can see a smile this time" Laughed his mum. "Just a bit of a one....?"

"哦，親愛的" 媽媽說岸蜗。她捧起一些干樹葉尉咕，拋向空中。樹葉紛紛飄落到小袋鼠的身上璃岳。小袋鼠的樣子看起來太有趣了年缎！"我覺得這次我能看到一點(diǎn)兒笑容了" 媽媽大笑著說悔捶，" 就一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)……"

"You don't" said Roo. "I'm not smiling." Oh well" sighed his mother. It was time for breakfast. Little Roo's mum lifted him up. "Let's go down the hill together and find something to eat" "I'm not hungry" said Roo grumpily, "But" I'm hungry" said his mum. "Come on"

"不可能"小袋鼠說，"我偏不笑" "哦单芜，好吧" 媽媽嘆了口氣說蜕该。早飯時(shí)間到了。媽媽舉起小袋鼠洲鸠，說："我們一起下山去找些吃的吧" "我不餓" 小袋鼠粗暴地說堂淡。"但是我餓了" 媽媽說，"走吧"

"Hold on tight!" and off they went.

"抓緊我扒腕！" 他們出發(fā)了绢淀。

Halfway down the hill there was a hole. It wasn't deep hole, but it was a wide hole, and a muddy -at-the-bottom hole. "Look out!" cried Roo. but his mum was doing silly hops from side to side instead of looking where she was going, AND....

半山腰上有一個(gè)土坑●坑并不深皆的，但是很寬，坑底積滿了淤泥蹋盆。"當(dāng)心费薄！"小袋鼠大叫。媽媽可不管那一套怪嫌，她看都不看义锥，就朝著泥坑的方向跳去。結(jié)果……

...Slippity ...Slippity ...Slide and... slop! Right into the hole. What a mess. What A MESS!

…撲哧 …啪嚓 …刺溜 …噗岩灭，正好落在了泥坑中間拌倍。什么亂七八糟的！什么呀噪径！

Roo himself was muddy all over. Then he looked at his mother, who was soaking wet and slimy from the tops of her ears to the tips of her toes.

小袋鼠成了個(gè)泥人柱恤。他看了看媽媽，媽媽渾身上下沾滿了黏糊糊的泥水找爱，從耳朵尖濕到了尾巴尖梗顺。

And little Roo couldn't do anything else. He just had to...Smile!

小袋鼠實(shí)在忍不住了，他忍不住地笑了!

"It's lovely when you smile车摄！" "你笑起來可愛極了寺谤！"
