Tame Me is what we read about today. I came across this tiny paragraph a couple of years ago, I didn’t really get it. What does “tame” have anything to do with love??
Today, I typed “tame” into google. “Make less powerful and easier to control” is one interpretation of this multiple-meaning word. I don’t really like the word “control”. I like the idea of establishing ties though.
From my perspective, to tame is to offer to the person by my side a space where he can laugh, smile, sob, cry, complain, curse…anything he feels like doing at that moment. Empathy is the only master in there. It’s a hand I lend to my friend. It’s a shoulder where he can cry over. It’s a hug where I say to my friend: “I’m here. You are not alone. We are doing it together.” It can be anything which helps to console my friend. Ideally, it is available 24/7.
In that space, I listen to and understand other person’s stories and emotions, happiness or sorrow, success or setbacks, let them be. Listen with empathy other person’s need, concerns and perspective while putting aside my own judgement. When I feel the urge to disagree, I just give it a pause and approach them with a more positive perspective.
This stand-alone space, totally different than my own space. It works as a buffer when the negativity gets overwhelming. That’s how I manage to witness other person’s feeling while staying connected to my own.
Family, marriage, friendship and even a customer relation all count on trust. It is in that space that all emotional threads crisscross into a safety net of trust. Best-knitted ever. When trust is built, tie comes along.
