It has been a while since the last time I wrote something, or anything. I find it hard to organize thoughts amidst a life----full of competition, comparison, ambition and sometimes even drama.?
I'm glad I got to know a person because without her, I'll never come cross this book and without this book, I would probably have forgotten why I even quit my job and decided to go back to school for a higher degree. Not for money, and that's for sure. But for what? I would say, compassion.?
It is not to prove that I am capable of learning new materials having worked for so many years. It is not about proving that I am intelligent (although it is to be proved otherwise, lol). It is not just so I can make a fortune to guarantee an early retirement. It is about being able of doing the right thing to a much larger scale, for people who actually need help.?
You don't just say you want to be a doctor because you like to help people. No. You want to be a doctor because you want to be a leader-----the leader of a group consisted of people who are passionate about humanity and love.?
Many of us like to say that we read books. Sure, you read. You read about sociology, economy and even anthropology----but do you ever think why, things are the way they are. As a doctor, we not only are the ones who treat patients, making them better and comfortable, but also the ones to be vocal, to advocate for their rights, their benefits, to fight against discrimination and to decrease healthcare disparities.??
Sure. Big Pharma needs to make profits. Unfortunately that is the rule of the game. But what about everyone else? Five thousand years ago, Mencius said, "In power, you make the world a better place. In poverty, you make yourself a better person." That's what being a physician is about.?
