The bai people live in the houses with tile roofs of civil structures. Its layout adopts the forms of "three fangand one side wall", and the country is spacious and sunny.
For the main building direction, many residential house in Dali are not north to south but east.
The "Fang" refers to the front room and wing room on the three sides of the courtyard. The main entrance is in one side. And in the leaky angle place of two side of main room. We often build smaller ear rooms to be kitchen, guest room or store room.
The wall is usually decorated with graceful and elegant decoration and literati poetry which is original a practical wall to keep out the sun and wind, but today it become one of the important symbols of the Bai culture.
