French Dressing: Yves Saint Laurent
① The tall, slim, bespectacled designer, who created a daring new femininity out of boyishness in the early 1960s, is to be immortalised in two new museums of his work.
② The first, in Paris, was unveiled on Thursday with a grand private reception close to where Saint Laurent and his lover and business partner, Pierre Bergé (who died on September 8th), first opened their maison de couture in 1961.
③ It will open to the public on Tuesday.
④ On October 19th a second museum will be inaugurated in Marrakech, Saint Laurent's spiritual home.
⑤ Born and brought up in Algeria, the French couturier never forgot the lemony light of his childhood.
⑥ Marrakech was where he did much of his sketching for the coloured shifts, sailors' peacoats, black-velvet tuxedos and elegant trench coats that would make their way down the catwalk twice a year, the heart of what became a billion-dollar business, and an irreplaceable signature style.
