A Report of Drug Youth Free 3.0

This report presents a description aboutthe activities done by exchange persons of the first two weeks in their visitto Sri Lanka. It included the visits to GO for the educational programs and thevisits to the different schools to do the educational programs that werescheduled. Finally it tries to give some summary and advice.
On the first day, the exchange personsvisited the National Dangerous Drug Control Board. The basic knowledge ondrugs, the drug addiction and the harmful effects of drugs were given throughgroup work and lectures. After one day’s activity, horizens were broadened andmuch knowledge was gained. Last but not the least, the enthusiasm for thevolunteer work was stimulated through the realization of the current situationof drug prevention in Sri Lanka and the importance to keeping young people awayfrom drugs. At the end of the day a presentation was prepared for the students.
·Three-day program was done in three different schools with thestudents and another day was spent on a program done for the parents.
First the students here were so lovely and friendly. Theextending greetings were kept with sweet smiles. During the activity, an amazingcreativity was shown through drawing beautiful pictures and giving fluentpresentations. Exchange persons were separated to different groups and thestudents were assisted by them. After the seminar, it had been reluctant to leavethose smiling faces behind.
On the third day, a seminar was conducted to the parents.There the parents were made aware of preventing their children from takingdrugs. A questionnaire was given to the parents and their awareness on theprevention of drugs was found. Finally it was observed that the parents’awareness on drug prevention is not enough and that more drug preventionprograms should be conducted.
·group work is a good form of inculcating students’ creativity.
·using multimedia is helpful to convey information and focus students’attention.
·The seminar can be a normal turn holding in each school regularly todeepen their impression and let them to be a spontaneous propagandist.
·There can be a promotional video of this program playing on local TVand in schools. Also posters and banners can help to promote.
·Exchange persons can do more things to help and are very willing to.
