Singler is coming off the worst statistical season of his four-year NBA career – lows in points per game (3.7), 3-point percentage (30.9) and free throw percentage (65.9) with an uptick in fouls committed (4.4 per 36 minutes, a career high).
Yet, the 27-year-old is just two seasons removed from shooting 39.8 percent from 3-point range in 80 games between Detroit and Oklahoma City. The Thunder doesn’t have a small forward on the roster with Singler’s combination of size (6-foot-9), length and shooting ability. There’s hope the 6-7 Huestis can contribute, but he has just five Thunder games to his credit and spent most of last season in the D-League, where he made just 31.3 percent of his 3-pointers.
With the dearth of shooting following the departure of Durant in free agency and the trade of Serge Ibaka, Singler will play, even if the Thunder chooses to go with more three-guard lineups. Will the work he put in pay off?

Huestis: Yellowstone, part of it is in Montana, so you were really close to where I grew up. What did you think?
Singler: I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I just felt like it was the right place to go because I like to hike, see the wildlife and just experience something new. It’s amazing … in just that small area, how much beauty is in that area.
Huestis: You see any cool animals, like a buffalo? Oh, you told me you saw like a bighorn sheep, like a ram.
Singler: I saw two rams. I saw an elk. Tons of buffalo or bison. Umm I was trying to find a bear.
Huestis: “…. Why were you trying to find a bear, Kyle?
Singler: Because I’ve never seen one up (close) in person. I know it’s a little risky to put yourself in that situation.
Huestis: Were you driving around trying to find a bear?
Singler: Yeah, it’s not like I was trying to get a handshake and say ‘hey nice to meet ya.’
