Reflection: I received a message from my supervisor this morning, and it said that the experimental plan needs to be completed quickly. After communicating with my supervisor, I was required to write a very detailed experimental plan. So, I changed my plan for today and read senior schoolmates’ thesis to learn adetailed experimental plan.
Plan: Write my experimental plan.
Oct. 28
To do: Search literature to complete my experiment plan and schedule.
Reflection: I read a few papers about the constructed wetland. However, in these two days, Ididn’t get much useful information about my experiments. Maybe there is something wrong with this approach. I think I should take a pause and think about what is the purpose of my experiment. Maybe it would be a good idea to do something else next.
Plan: (1) Examine the extracted data. (2) Learn how to run the program for meta-analysis.
Oct. 27
To do: Search literaturea bout my experiments.
Reflection: I read three papers listed in the file that my supervisor sent to me. I have some basic understanding of the constructed wetland and Pittosporum tobira. Iwill look up more literature to determine the detail of my experiments.
Plan: Continue searching for literature about my experiments.
Oct. 26
To do: (1) Comment on a new manuscript. (2) Search literature to complete myexperiment plan and schedule.
Reflection: (1) After refer to my supervisor’s previous comments, this task was completed. (2)This task is in progress. Today, I received a reply about the steps of mymeta-analysis from my supervisor. I will learn how to use R for meta-analysis.
Plan: Search literature to complete my experimental plan and schedule.
Oct. 25
To do: Finish writing the steps of my meta-analysis.
Reflection: I have finished a brief version, and still have many questions. I will send the file to my supervisor and wait for her reply.
Plan: (1) Comment on a new manuscript. (2) Look up literature to complete my experimental plan and schedule.
Oct. 23
To do: (1) Finish reading my supervisor’s meta-analysis paper again. (2) Write the stepsof my meta-analysis.
Reflection: (1) This time I read materials and methods, results, and supporting information carefully. I try to find what should I do for my meta-analysis. However, afterreading, I still have some confusion. (2) I found some useful information in my supervisor’s learning journal which is helpful for me to write steps of mymeta-analysis. I have already started writing it, but have not finished.
Plan: Finish writing the steps.
Oct. 22
To do: (1) Plant rice for experiment with Yu Hui. (2) Write the steps of my meta-analysis.
Reflection: (1) I learned how to plant rice in experimental columns. (2) I still have someproblems that how to write the steps. So, I decided to read the learning journal from my supervisor. After reading, I found it more complicated than I thought. I will read my supervisor's meta-analysis paper carefully again, andtry to find out the steps of meta-analysis. I haven’t finished reading the paper again yet.
Plan: Finish reading the paper again, and write the steps for meta-analysis.
Oct. 21
To do: (1) Communicate with my supervisor to modify my research subject. (2) Write atutorial about problems I met in data extraction.
Reflection: (1) After communication, a new chapter with some experiments were added. I wasrequired to look up some literature to complete my experiment plan and schedule. After data extraction, the next task is torun the test procedure for meta-analysis. However, I don’t know how to run the procedure. My supervisor’s advice is that write the steps of mate-analysisfirstly, and then she will give the feedback. (2) The tutorial requires clearsteps. After modification, I submitted a new vision to my supervisor.
Plan: Write the steps of my mate-analysis, and continue to communicate with my supervisor.
