'You're going to be good?' said Lord Henry. 'Don't tell me that. You're wonderful as you are. Please don't change. ' His long, white fingers played with a flower on the table. It was spring in London, and the two friends were having? dinner at Lord Henry's house.

'There was a girl in a village. A beautiful girl, an honest, country girl. She loved me and was ready to come away with me yesterday, but i said no. I refused to? destroy her young life, and i've left her as honest as i found her.
“就是村里有個女孩子。一個美麗誠實的鄉(xiāng)下姑娘催跪。她愛我锁蠕,昨天準備和我私奔,但我沒同意懊蒸。我不想毀了她荣倾,想她如我初見她時那般,還是個花樣少女骑丸∩嗳裕”
Lord Henry laughed. 'You've left her with a broken heart, you mean. How can she be happy with a country boy, after has known you?'
亨利勛爵聽得哈哈大笑妒貌。“你是說铸豁,你離開她讓你心都碎了灌曙。在認識你之后,她怎么可能會再和一位粗鄙的鄉(xiāng)下男子幸福生活呢节芥?”
'Don't, Harry.'cried Dorian. 'Can you never be serious? I'm sorry that i told you know. Let's talk about other things. What's been happening in London?'

'Oh, people are still discussing poor Basil and how he disappeared. I don't know why, but there are plenty of other things that they can talk about ― my wife has run away with another man, Alan Campbell has killed himself...'

'What do you think has happened to Basil?'asked Dorian slowly.

'I've no idea.'answered Lord Henry. 'The English police report that Basil went to Paris on the midnight train on the ninth of? November, but the French police say that he never arrived in Paris at all. If Basil wants to hide himself, i really don't care. And if he's dead, i don't want to think about him. Death is the only thing that really? frightens me - i hate it.'

Lord Henry smiled. 'No, my dear Dorian, Murder wouldn't? please you. You like a different kind of pleasure. And you should never do anything that you cannot talk about after dinner.' He lifted his coffee cup. 'What happened to the fine portrait that Basil painted of you? I haven't seen it for years. Didn't you tell me that it was stolen. What a pity!'
亨利勛爵莞爾一笑,“不逾冬,親愛的多里安黍聂,殺人可不能讓你快樂,你喜歡其他形式的快樂身腻。飯后分冈,你可不能再談?wù)撃悴豢赡軙龅氖铝恕霸株!彼似鹨槐Х鹊癯痢!鞍推潬柦o你畫的那幅美麗畫像出什么事了嗎去件?許多年都沒見過了坡椒。你早說過那幅畫被偷了,太可惜了尤溜【蟮穑”
'Oh, i never really liked it.' said Dorian, 'I prefer not to think about it.'
“哦,我從未真心喜歡過那幅畫宫莱,”多里安說丈攒,“我也不愿去想它∈诎裕”
For a while the two man were silent.? Then the older man lay back in his chair and looked at Dorian with his half-closed eyes. 'Tell me know you have keep your young and your wonderful beauty, Dorian. You must have some secrets. I'm only ten years older than you, and i look like an old man. But you haven't changed since the day when i first met you. What a wonderful life you've had.'
有一會兒巡验,兩人都沒說話。然后亨利勛爵往座椅背上靠了靠碘耳,眼睛半閉著显设,看著多里安⌒帘妫“多里安捕捂,跟我說說你是怎樣保持青春與美貌的。你一定有什么秘方斗搞,我只比你大十歲指攒,我看著像個老人,你卻還是第一次見你時的樣子僻焚。一生都完美無瑕允悦!”
'Yes,'said Dorian slowly, 'it's been wonderful, Harry. but i am going to change it now. You don't? know everything about me.'
“是的溅呢,”多里安緩緩地說澡屡,“確實是這樣猿挚,哈里。但我現(xiàn)在要做改變了驶鹉,你也并不了解我的一切绩蜻。”
His friend smiled. 'You cannot change to me, Dorian. You and I will always be friends.'
亨利勛爵笑得溫潤室埋“炀“多里安,你能不能為了我不要改變姚淆。你和我會是一輩子的朋友孕蝉。”
Dorian stood up. 'I'm tired tonight, Harry. I must go home. I'll see you at lunch tomorrow. Good night.'
多里安起身腌逢〗祷矗“我累了,哈里搏讶,我得回家了佳鳖。我們明天中午再見。晚安媒惕!”
At the door he stopped for a moment and looked back, but then he turned and went out without another word.
走到門口系吩,多里安停了來,回頭看了看妒蔚,但沒說話穿挨,又轉(zhuǎn)身走了。
