It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,

埃德加·愛倫·坡（Edgar Allan Poe)垢村，[愛倫·坡]割疾，十九世紀美國詩人、小說家和文學評論家嘉栓，在世時長期擔任報刊編輯工作宏榕。其作品是在任何時代都是“獨一無二”的風格。語言和形式精致侵佃、優(yōu)美麻昼，內容多樣。偵探小說鼻祖馋辈、科幻小說先驅之一抚芦、恐怖小說大師、短篇哥特小說巔峰迈螟、象征主義先驅之一叉抡，唯美主義者。受到過愛倫·坡影響的主要人物有：柯南·道爾答毫、波德萊爾褥民、斯特芳·馬拉美、儒勒·凡爾納洗搂、羅伯特·路易斯·斯蒂文森消返、希區(qū)柯克、蒂姆·伯頓蚕脏、江戶川亂步等侦副。愛倫·坡最著名的文藝理論是“效果論”。坡力圖在自己的作品中先確立某種效果驼鞭，再為追求這種效果而思考創(chuàng)作秦驯。他在《怪異故事集》序中稱“自己的作品絕大部分都是深思熟慮的苦心經(jīng)營”。
愛倫·坡（1809～1849）挣棕、安布魯斯·布爾斯（1842～1914译隘？）和H.P洛夫克拉夫特（1890～1937）并稱為美國三大恐怖小說家。
