天長地久。天地所以能長且久者能颁,以其不自生,故能長生倒淫。是以聖人後其身而身先伙菊;外其身而身存。非以其無私耶?故能成其私镜硕。
Heaven and earth are everlasting,
The reason of which is because they do not live for themselves,
This is how they are able to endure long.
Therefore the sage puts his own person last,
And yet it is found in the foremost place;
He treats his person as if it were foreign to himself,
And yet his personality is preserved.
Is it not because he has no private ends himself,
That therefore he realizes himself?
【解】“天長地久”是一句互文运翼,也就是說天地長久,后面相同的描述用從句解決兴枯。這段有點像“四哥”(雍正帝)的一幅對聯(lián)“惟以一人治天下 豈為天下奉一人”血淌,位于養(yǎng)心殿西暖閣,這里是雍正帝處理政務(wù)和批閱奏折的地方财剖。這句詩雍正帝根據(jù)唐太宗時名臣張?zhí)N古之《大寶箴》中一句改編悠夯,原句為:“故以一人治天下,不以天下奉一人躺坟÷俨梗”其實《道德經(jīng)》通篇都是討論統(tǒng)治的藝術(shù),希望統(tǒng)治者“無私”咪橙,才能實現(xiàn)其真正的“私”夕膀,也就是天下大治。和孟子“何必曰利”異曲同工美侦。
