Lots of luck for the Year of the Rat!
? ? ? ? the Spring Festival
過(guò)春節(jié)? ? ? ? celebrate the Spring Festival
所以一般笼恰,我們要加上一句 —— the Chinese New Year ! 或者你也可以說(shuō) ——? the Chinese Lunar New Year. lunar? 所以,把這一堆意思整合起來(lái)說(shuō)奕短,就是 —— We will celebrate the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year.(同位語(yǔ))
The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring (the first of the Twenty-four Solar Terms二十四節(jié)氣 in coodination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word ‘Nian’, which in modern Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster.
辭舊歲 bid farewell to the old year
掃房 spring cleaning; general house-cleaning
01. 紅包
Red Envelope (with money inside)
如果怕老外不太明白,可以加上with money inside翎碑,翻譯為red envelope with money inside就可以了∶担現(xiàn)在微信上流行搶紅包,可以翻譯為snatch red envelopes日杈,其中snatch是"搶"遣铝,Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary對(duì)snatch的解釋是to take hold of something suddenly and roughly佑刷,suddenly和roughly很能體現(xiàn)在微信群中搶紅包的那種奮不顧身和喜悅∧鹫ǎ【例】I got some red envelopes. I've been watching a Chinese New Year special (on a Chinese programme/program) and I'm having noodles for breakfast!
02. 春晚
Spring Festival Gala/New Year Gala
New Year's Eve dinner
We are eating CNY dinner.
make dumplings 順便說(shuō)一下,有些地區(qū)包餃子的時(shí)候還會(huì)放硬幣匙睹,據(jù)說(shuō)咬到的人就會(huì)交好運(yùn)愚屁,這種餃子就可以說(shuō)成dumplings with lucky coins inside,可以和上面的red envelope with money inside一起記痕檬。
【例】There's traditional food to noodle soup is supposed to bring luck, and people make dumplings with lucky coins inside.
drink a toast to someone 要注意這個(gè)短語(yǔ)和to的搭配霎槐,如"我給岳父敬酒了。"就是:
I drank a toast to my father-in-law.
【例】When you drink a toast to someone or something, you drink some wine or another alcoholic drink as a symbolic gesture, in order to show your appreciation of them or to wish them success.
06. 壓歲錢(qián)
lucky money (given to children as a gift) 其中g(shù)iven to children as a gift是進(jìn)一步的解釋?zhuān)瑸榱俗尷贤鈴氐酌靼住?/p>
07. 年貨
New Year goods
【例】a rhyming couplet
(來(lái)源:Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary)
Every year millions of people travel home to be with their families for the holiday. In parts of China, families make dumplings to symbolise/symbolize (英美拼寫(xiě)差別)luck and reunion.
10. 拜年
give one's New Year blessing to/pay a New Year visit to “拜年”其實(shí)有兩個(gè)意思鸵赫,一個(gè)是把雙手托在胸前說(shuō)"給您拜年了衣屏!",這句話(huà)可以說(shuō)成:
I would like to give my New Year blessing to you. 或 Please accept my New Year blessing. 以上的blessing通常用單數(shù)辩棒,Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary對(duì)blessing的解釋是good wishes狼忱。
I'll be paying a New Year visit to my grandparents tomorrow.
