A true university education encompasses far more than the narrow, specialized study of a single discipline. Only through exploring the broad spectrum of liberal arts courses can students become truly learned.
I am strongly agree that students will only be truly learned if they extend their knowledge from their own subject to other subjects. In my view, learning different courses can broaden one's spectacle, refresh his/hers thought and help with his/hers own study.
Most universities are comprehensive universities which include arts and sciences also teaching and researches, so universities are the heaven for people who wish to explore the huge liberal arts education. Even though, there are many universities that students will only take courses which are closely related to their subjects. For example, Biomedical Science students will only learn human biology courses. They will not be taught and maths, chemistry or physics. However, all these subjects are strongly relevant. A good mathematics mind can help students to understand experiments results better. Physics knowledge makes human movement more comprehensible. Moreover, arts and science are complementary. Learning philosophy can improve peoples' reasoning and arguing abilities which gives people a more logical mind. These abilities are used in science researches constantly, such as designing experiments and writing reports. Therefore, universities should give students knowledge throughout the spectrum of liberal arts courses which means a higher quality of education.
However, the time in the university and the sources that the school can provided are limited. The main job that the university should do is to give students the concept of learning from different subjects. Afterwards, students can gain information from other sources in their own time, such as MOOC. Furthermore, if colleges develop students' passion in learning, students will learn voluntary and also affect their whole life.
In conclusion, university is the best place to explore the liberal arts world. A good university should use these sources to enlarge the mind of their students. For the students, learning different subjects will benefit their own study.
