El perfecto (the present perfect)
To construct the present perfect, we need: haber (in present form) + past participle
It’s the same as English: have done, has done
To construct the past participle,
-ar ending verbs: change into -ado
-er and -ir ending verbs: change into -ido
Several irregular past participles are: hacer - hecho, decir - dicho, ver - visto, escribir - escrito, poner - puesto, volver - vuelto, abrir - abierto, morir - muerto

Usados del perfecto
1 To describe an action that is unfinished during a time interval.
hoy, ahora, ya, esta ma?ana/tarde
esta noche, este a?o, siempre, nunca, anoche
Este a?o he trabajado mucho. I have worked a lot this year.
Hasta ahora no he salido de vacaciones. Until now I haven’t left for holidays.
2 The consequence of the action affects till now.
?Qué resaca! Anoche he bebido mucho. How terrible! I drank too much last night.
3 To express experiences
alguna vez, todavía no, hasta ahora, muchas veces, una vez
He viajado mucho y he conocido a mucha gente interesante. I have travelled a lot and I have known a lot of interesting people.
4 In Latin America, people seldom use el perfecto, but preférito
Espa?a: Hoy Elena se ha levantado temprano, pero todavía no ha sacado al perro.
Latinoamérica: Hoy Elena se levantó temprano, pero todavía no sacó al perro.
Today, Elena got up early, but still she has not walked out the dog.

El pluscuamperfecto (the past perfect/the pluperfect)
Similar to English, had done, Spanish employs the past form of haber + past participle
It is not often used to describe the past of the past.
Este a?o hemos ido a Mallorca. Antes nunca habíamos estado allí.
This year we went to Mallorca. Before never had we been there.
