This book is based on the TV series Peppa Pig. Peppa Pig is created by Neville Astley ans Mark Baker. Peppa Pig is one of the most popular cartoon characters. We can see Peppa Pig everywhere. My daughter has many clothes with Peppa Pig. My son has a pair of slippers with George. And so on.
Look at the pictures, Peppa Pig and her friends are celebrating Chinese New Year. It looks like a great story! My daughter asked me to read it for her. When I first opened this book, I saw many Chinese elements on it. The main colors are red and yellow. I told her red and yellow are celebratory colors, denoting lucky and happiness.?
The story took place at school. Madam gazelle led the curiouse children to learn about Chinese New Year. They decorated the classroom with some pepper lanterns. The children made Chinese cards as well. Miss rabbit brought out a tray of food. There are sweeties, tangerines and little biscuits called fortune cookies. The children loved the snacks very much. Madam gazelle helps everyone get dressed? in smart clothes. In China, children wear brand new clothes on Chinese New Year’ eve.? And the adults would give them red packets with best wishes.
The story recalled a lot of fond memories to us. My daughter told me how much she loves to celebrate Chinese New Year. For instance, George was scared of the dragon. But my daughter said, dragon dance and lion dance were very interesting! She even wanted to try to dance the Dragon when she grow up. I told her dragon dance is one of the traditional Chinese activities. The dragon dance was really spectacular which we watched last year, the dancers should be trained for a long time. During the New Year days, we set off the fireworks every night. The fireworks were beautiful.? We kept saying, “Ooh! Aah!” Just like Peppa and her friends did. We also set off firecrackers. My daughter told me a tale which her teach told her before. She said long long time ago, there was a monster Nien, he came out to eat people on Chinese New Year’s Eve. People set off the fireworks and firecrackers, Nien was frightened and never came back again. That is why we set off the fireworks and firecrackers on every New Year’s Day. Be attention! Children should play with fireworks and firecrackers under the guidance of parents.?
