It is made loud and clear in the American Constitution that there are three unalienable rights for all its people: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I used to wonder why the wise fathers who found this great country wrote "pursuit" instead of "acquire". Now, I have come to known that happiness is not a stationary word. There are some reasons why we must always be on the way to get closer and closer to happiness. We never really ACQUIRE happiness until we have realized that the process of pursuing happiness is already HAPPINESS itself. There is a saying that there are two kinds of sadness: one is not getting what one wants; the other is---getting what one wants. According to this saying there is no possibility to happiness, whether you get what you want or not. And yet, what if we paraphrase this sentence into something more positive and optimistic? That is: There are two ways of happiness: one is getting what you want, the other is getting closer to what you want. Happiness lies in the pursuit itself. You feel a sense of satisfaction and contentment once you overcome a great difficulty in life, knowing that you are stronger than you had expected, and being strong in mind and soul is what gives you happiness. You feel gratitude from whatever help offered by friends or strangers, the nature or the unknown spirits, and being grateful and knowing you have a blessed life and you will be saved in times of danger is what gives you happiness. You feel delight and great pleasure from all the masterpieces that art or music or literature can provide, and being inspired and ignited by other people's ?thoughts and ideas is what gives you happiness. You feel deeply touched by the beauty of the world, and that is happiness. When one will never stop his longing and pursuing for true happiness, he may have more chances to be blessed with a happy life.
