本章Appetites of the Mind（欲望），主要講了中國的婚戀狀況挟鸠。情節(jié)延續(xù)上一節(jié)龔海燕創(chuàng)立世紀佳緣網(wǎng)站亩冬，文中對比了中美在約會網(wǎng)站上理念的不同。 In America ,it had the power to expand your universe of potential mates ; in China,online dating promised to do the opposite .中國人在婚戀網(wǎng)站上設(shè)置種種條件覆享，試圖在茫茫人海中找到符合自己條件的那一個。也許是過去在婚戀方面中國人受到了太多的束縛撒顿，如今的中國人對婚戀抱有諸多條件，在自己的臆想之中尋求伴侶“after so many years without much say in one of life’s great decisions ,people seemed to be making up for lost time ”
作者也親身體驗了在佳緣網(wǎng)站注冊時冗長繁瑣的選擇巍糯。中國人在婚戀觀的變化客扎，從最初的“三轉(zhuǎn)一響”（three rounds and a sound ）到“岳母綜合征”（mother-in-law syndrome: 岳母們是房地產(chǎn)價格不斷攀升的背后動力罚斗，因為她們不允許自己的女兒嫁給沒有房的男人）; 選擇對象從政治可靠性到看重掙錢能力的轉(zhuǎn)變the Chinese had evaluated the“the political reliability ”of parents and ancestors ,but now men and women evaluated each other based on their earning potential；三無人員（triple without）到裸婚（naked wedding）针姿；恐怕中國人婚戀觀的最典型代表就是“寶馬哭”了吧—I ‘d rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bicycle .作者甚至還去參加了相親聯(lián)誼會（mixer），感嘆沒房沒車的男人亞歷山大啊绞绒。
P.S.文中作者舉了一個很逗的例子榕暇，中國有個知名的眼鏡品牌海倫凱勒（Helen Keller），外國人怎么也弄不明白為啥找個盲人來宣傳品牌彤枢？哈哈…
