本章通篇講的都是torture冶共， Winston遭遇各式的嚴(yán)刑拷打现柠， fists , truncheons ,steel rods , boots , syringe等等冲杀。刑訊逼供下公罕，W屈打成招棺聊，he became simply a mouth that uttered ,a hand that signed ,whatever was demanded of him . His sole concern was to find out what they wanted him to confess, and then confess it quickly.
O’Brien 登場(chǎng)，手指只需輕輕撥動(dòng)dial上的控制桿（不知是什么可怕的刑具淹接，推測(cè)是可控制大小的電刑之類的東西）十性，就對(duì)Winston施以mortal injury。身體的摧殘加洗腦塑悼，告訴W他是精神錯(cuò)亂劲适，他所認(rèn)為的事實(shí)都不是真的，事實(shí)存在于黨的思想中…that reality is not external. Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else .Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the party. W 也一度在掙扎于2+2等于幾厢蒜，但是隨著the needle of the dial had shot up …..risen up again. 身體上的極度折磨已經(jīng)讓W(xué)意識(shí)模糊…..
O’Brien 大言不慚霞势，說這樣折磨w是為了改造他，幫助他…to cure you! To make you sane! ….the thought is all we care about. We do not merely destroy our enemies, we change them. 對(duì)w進(jìn)行完全的洗腦…we shall squeeze you empty ,and then we shall fill you with ourselves.
