內(nèi)心的話
Most people need to hear "I love you". Once in a while, they hear them just in time.
大多數(shù)人需要聽到“我愛你”鳍贾。有些時(shí)候梦抢,他們會及時(shí)聽到這句話般贼。
I met Connie the day she was admitted to the hospice ward(病房), where I worked as a volunteer.
我在康妮住進(jìn)臨終病房的那天見到了她。我在那兒做義工奥吩。
Her husband, Bill, stood nervously nearby as she was transferred to the hospital bed.
當(dāng)她被轉(zhuǎn)移到病床上時(shí)哼蛆,她的丈夫比爾緊張地站在旁邊。
While Connie was in the final stage of her fight against cancer, she was cheerful.

Connie was a romantic. As we became acquainted(使熟悉), she confided(傾訴) how frustrating it was to be married 32 years to a man who often called her "a silly woman".

"I know Bill loves me," she said. "But he has never been one to say he loves me, or send cards to me. I'd give anything if he'd say 'I love you', but it's just not in his nature."

Soon, when Connie had fewer waking moments, I began spending more of my volunteer time with Bill.

One day, I got him on the subject of women, how we need romance in our lives and how we love to got sentimental cards.
有一天晦嵌,我和他聊到關(guān)于女人的話題同辣,聊到我們的生活多么需要浪漫,我們多么喜歡收到充滿柔情蜜意的卡片耍铜。
"I don't have to," he said. "She knows I do love her!"
“我不必這么做邑闺,” 他說∽丶妫“她知道我愛她陡舅!”
"I'm sure she knows," I said, "but she needs to hear what she has meant to you all these years. Please think about it."
“我相信她知道,” 我說伴挚,“但她需要知道這些年來她對你意味著什么靶衍。請你考慮下灾炭。”
Two days later I walked down the hospice ward at noon. There stood Bill, leaning against the wall in the hallway and staring at the floor.

I already knew Connie had died at 11 a. m. When I saw Bill, his face was wet with tears and he was trembling.

He said, "I have to say how good I feel about telling her." He stopped to blow his nose. "This morning I told her how much I loved her and loved being married to her. You should have seen her smile!"

I went into the room to say goodbye to Connie.

There, on the bedside table, was a large Valentine card from Bill, saying: "To my wonderful wife, I love you."
床頭桌上放著一張比爾給她的大大的情人賀卡鸥印,上面寫著:“給我最棒的妻子勋功,我愛你坦报。”
