The main idea of the renovation of the kitchen is to make it brighter and more open. I knocked down one wall to linking the kitchen to the living room. A new window was built into another wall of the room beside the existing two, bringing more light in. But in case sometimes you may need privacy when dining beside them or you want to adjust the light, some shades wereput on, so you could tie them by hand to move them up and down at free will.
Against the main wall, I designed a symmetrical layout – the cooker was embedded in the middle of the counter and the ventilator was above it. I also painted the top cabinet white, which now blends the cabinet into the ceiling. On the counter of the two sides of the cooker, I set two three-level shelves to replace the original bulky closets. China table sets laid on it made the kitchen very clean. Kitchen units under the worktop were replaced with wide drawers. The dining table on the left was removed and I planted a barn-wood white-top island in the center, parallel with the counter, and matched it with my original bar-stools. If you are a guest sitting on the opposite stool, you must expect the turn-back of the cook because he should have made some delicious food and transfer it to the island. To keep a harmony with the main tune, the lighting was also changed. Two chandeliers with conical shades were hanging above the island and some other small bulbs were embedded in the ceiling. Due to the more commodious room, I put some more table and chairs in the corner of the room and you can enjoy your tea-time with a beautiful view into the yard. The totally different kitchen turned out to be a perfect place for meeting and chatting with friends.
