This year, bitcoin's price has added an extra zero, lurching from $1000 to $10000. However, bitcoin itself is quite controversial. Someone think it as a total fraud, or a gigantic speculative bubble. But ordinary investors are being tempted into it because of a phenomenon dubbed as FOMO. Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and NASDAQ stock decided to accept bitcoin by planning to offer bitcoin-futures contracts.
It is easy to muddle two seperate issues. One is whether the blockchain technology which underpins bitcoin will be wildely used. Another is as a currency, whether bitcoin will be applied into our daily life. The answer of the latter should be no.
There're three main functions of currency: store of value, means of exchange, unit of account. Bitcoin does not meet it because of it volatility.
