“In war，”answered the weaver再榄，“the strong make slaves of the weak狡刘，and in peace the rich make slaves of the poor.We must work to live，and they give us such mean wages that we die. We toil for them all day long困鸥，and they heap up gold in their coffers嗅蔬，and our children fade away before their time，and the faces of those we love become hard and evil. We tread out the grapes疾就，and another drinks the wine.We sow the corn澜术，and our own board is empty.We have chains，though no eye beholds them猬腰；and are slaves鸟废，though men call us free.”
“打仗的時候，強者強迫弱者做奴隸姑荷，”織工答道盒延，“和平的時候缩擂，有錢人強迫窮人做奴隸。我們不得不做工來養(yǎng)活自己兰英，可是他們只給我們那樣少的工錢撇叁，我們簡直活不了。我們整天給他們作苦工畦贸，他們箱子里金子裝滿了陨闹，我們的兒女不到成年就夭折了，我們所愛的人的臉色也變得兇惡難看了薄坏。我們的腳踏出了葡萄汁趋厉，卻讓別人來喝葡萄酒。我們種了谷子胶坠，我們的飯桌卻是空的君账。我們都帶著鏈子，雖然鏈子是肉眼看不見的沈善；我們都是奴隸乡数，不管人們說我們怎樣自由∥拍担”?
