【 Why do people attend college?】Have I the chance once again to make a choice between entering the work force or going to college after graduating from high school, I would choose the latter without any hesitation. There is no doubt that attending college is obviously beneficial for us to obtain higher salaries, the access to further study, and liberal education.
Firstly, going to college is the most common way to enhance our own value. Without university experience, students have no enough professional knowledge to be competent for specialized job, only doing some work everyone can do, naturally, being low waged. Especially, almost all big companies regard university degree as a prerequisite to employees. The diploma being a proof of professional competence, college graduates not only have more options in career development, they can also win over higher salaries than applicants who lack college degree.
Additionally, graduating college is the first step on the way to be a scientific researcher. A B.S. in physic could allow a student to find a job of product research and development, being a researcher in high-tech firms. The same degree could also be used to apply for graduate programs in academic institutes, the basis for doctor. Were there no the completion of undergraduate major, both of these access would be unavailable.
Last but not least, one important function of university is providing liberal education which, although it can't bring direct economic benefits, plays a significant role in our development. General education teaches us to analyse and understand things in an objective and just perspective. It also makes us realize the diversification of world cultures, harmonizing all kinds of people. Nothing is more effective than are these above in enabling us to enjoy life and taste happiness.
