Vulcan(伏爾坎)
Vulcan is the Roman counterpart(對(duì)應(yīng)的) of the Greek god Hephaestus, god of fire and blacksmith(鐵匠). In some versions of the myth, the fire that Prometheus gave to man was actually stolen from Hephaestus’ forge(打鐵爐).
伏爾坎是希臘火神與匠神赫菲斯托斯對(duì)應(yīng)的羅馬名字盈简。在一些版本的神話中凑耻,普羅米修斯送給人類的火種就是從赫菲斯托斯的打鐵爐里偷來的。
Hephaestus was believed to have crafted such magnificent equipment as Hermes’ winged helmet and sandals, Aphrodite’s famed girdle, Achilles’ armor, Heracles’ bronze clappers and Eros’ (愛神丘比特)bow and arrows.
赫菲斯托斯手藝精湛柠贤,制作出了很多奇妙的東西香浩,譬如:赫耳墨斯帶翅膀的頭盔和飛鞋、阿芙洛蒂忒著名的腰帶臼勉、阿喀琉斯的鎧甲邻吭、海格立斯的青銅響板以及厄洛斯的弓箭。
The word volcano(火山) is derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in Italy, which was apparently named after Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.
火山(volcano)一詞源于伏爾坎諾(Vulcano)宴霸,顯然這座意大利的火山島正是以火神伏爾坎(Vulcan)命名的囱晴。
Cornucopia(豐饒角)
It is said that when Zeus was an infant, he was suckled from the horn of a goat. Later, this horn was filled with flowers and fruits and given to Zeus as a present. The filled horn served as a symbol of abundance(富饒) since then.
傳說在宙斯還是個(gè)小嬰兒時(shí),他從一只公羊角里吸吮乳汁瓢谢。后來仙女們就把這只公羊角裝滿鮮花和水果送給宙斯作為禮物畸写。從此,裝滿東西的公羊角就成了富饒的標(biāo)志氓扛。
The word cornucopia(豐饒角), in Greek, means “horn of plenty”. Now with the meaning “an inexhaustible(用不完的) store of something”, cornucopia is often seen on Thanksgiving Day.
cornucopia(豐饒角)這個(gè)詞在希臘語中的意思就是“裝滿東西的角”枯芬。如今,這個(gè)代表“大量、豐盛”的東西常常在感恩節(jié)出現(xiàn)破停。
